Jute

Like Cotton, Jute is another naturally occurring fibre which has grown in popularity over recent years because of its eco-friendliness and potential for bio-degradability. Whilst many supermarkets supply jute bags as a “Bags for Life”, most of them laminate it with Poly-Urethane to give it added stiffness and water-resistancy. Whilst this laminate does prevent the bags from being 100% bio-degradable, Jute is still a more eco-friendly option than the artificial material alternatives which require more energy to manufacture.

Jute has a much rougher texture than cotton and is a more cost-affordable alternative. Its rougher texture can make printing fine detail and multi-colour logos/artwork a challenge. For more price-focused customers, jute has become extremely popular. In its natural colour, it is tan, and can also be dyed to achieve a wide spectrum of colours to meet customers’ demands.
